Sprint is hoping you’ll dash at a chance to save big on your cell phone bill. The wireless carrier announced that starting Friday, Dec. 5, it will cut the bill of any existing Verizon or AT&T subscriber in half—for the same amount of data and unlimited talk and text. Just upload a recent copy of your bill onto Sprint’s site or bring it to a store. The company will waive your activation fees and buy out your old contract for up to $350 a line. Every family member on your old plan must make the switch (and you can only get additional half-price lines on Sprint if you’re currently sharing them on AT&T or Verizon).
The catch? You can keep your phone number, but not your phone, which Sprint will collect. Leasing or buying a new device from Sprint cuts into your savings. Also, T-Mobile and existing Sprint users do not qualify.
Before making the leap, you’ll also want to compare Sprint’s coverage in your area with AT&T’s and Verizon’s. We recommend the Sensorly app, which displays providers’ service worldwide (free; Android, Apple).
If you decide the deal’s too good to pass up, act fast. It’s for a limited time only.
